Mother's Day Extravaganza Fundraiser

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 3, 2023
Richmond, VA -- On Saturday, May 6, 2023, social media fashion guru Nathaniel Womack, Jr will bring more than a dozen models to the Petersburg Public Library for a spectacular fashion show called “A Night to Remember”. The event, which starts at 6 pm, will benefit My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond, a men’s mentoring organization that has been around for 15 years. Womack is one of its board members.
But how did this Chester resident go from a career as a Senior Drill Instructor in the U.S. Army to own the Tailored-Made Modeling Agency? It all stemmed from his life-long love of fashion and his attempt to get into modeling, after retiring from the Army and taking a civilian job with the U.S. Department of Defense in Richmond. He had attended the Barbizon Modeling and Acting School in Atlanta in 1981, learning to do commercials and walk the catwalk.
25 years later, Womack, who had moved to Richmond from California, wanted to try his hand at it again. But after exploring several local modeling agencies, he was told he’d need about $1,500 for classes and workshops. Disappointed, he went home and told his wife, Cat, what happened. She suggested that he start his own modeling agency. Three years later, in 2018, the couple established the Tailored-Made Modeling Agency with two models.
Now, Tailored-Made has an enviable roster of more than a dozen male models, who’ve strutted down the catwalk in shows held in Richmond, Petersburg, and Hopewell. This upcoming event will benefit an organization close to Womack’s heart. In addition to being a board member, he is also a certified fatherhood program instructor and mentor for My Brother’s Keeper of Greater Richmond.
Community service has been a large part of Womack’s life, dating back to high school in his native Baltimore, where he volunteered for the Baltimore Maryland Central League for Children and Adults. It was during his childhood that he developed his love for clothes. His mother was a stay-at-home mom with seven children, which made it necessary for everyone to pitch in where they could.
“Everyone in the house sewed,” said Womack. “We learned from our father who worked for London Fog in the 50s as a seamstress.” During high school, he improved his skills by taking sewing classes. “I advanced to the point where I was making my clothes for school just like my siblings.” When senior prom rolled around, Womack not only made his tuxedo, but he also made his date’s dress. “My popularity grew because I was the guy who could sew, and all the girls wanted to go to the prom with me so they could have a designer gown.”
After high school, Womack enlisted in the Army, where he had the opportunity to travel the world, including Germany, Korea, Amsterdam, London, and Paris. He spent 21 years in the military, working as a Senior Drill Instructor, mentoring young men from all levels of society’. In addition to being a certified fitness instructor, Womack also served as a mentor and health instructor for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for Juvenile Justice, and as president of the Blacks in Government Bellwood Chapter in Virginia. He and his wife have five children, twenty-six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
